Accessibility

We work continuously to make the Economy Museum accessible to everyone. Read about accessibility options and any possible limitations during your visit.

Overview

  • The museum has parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities. The parking is located just to the right of the main stairs at Narvavägen 17, approximately 2 meters away. The surface of the parking area is cobblestone.
  • The entrance to the Swedish History Museum consists of stone steps with no ramp. To the right of the entrance stairs, there is an elevator.
  • Automatic door openers are available at the entrance with the elevator and in the entrance hall.
  • Folding chairs are available in the entrance hall and near the exhibitions.
  • There is a quiet room at the museum. Please ask at the information desk.
  • Guide dogs are welcome.
  • A hearing loop system is available in the auditorium, the Bifrost room, and the Baroque Hall.
  • The Swedish History Museum is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not allowed in the Rosengården courtyard or in the large courtyard, including the balustrade.
  • The information and shop desks have a lowered section.
  • Strollers are allowed inside the museum, except in the Gold Room. There is a stroller parking area in the entrance hall.
  • Changing rooms are available in the accessible toilets on all floors.

Visitors with allergies

We strive to avoid allergenic materials in our exhibitions and interiors. Apart from toilets, perfumed cleaning chemicals are not used.

Visitors with pet allergies

With the exception of guide dogs, no pets are admitted to the museum.

Scents and dust

We do not have any allergenic plants inside the museum.  In connection with the production of new exhibitions, dust and strong smells may sometimes occur. If you are uncertain about the situation, please contact us prior to your visit.

Lactose and gluten intolerant visitors

The café offers lactose- and gluten-free options.

Visitors with nut allergies

The café cannot guarantee that traces of nuts are not present in its offerings.

Visitors with mobility impairment

The museum has specially adapted parking, toilets, lifts and ramps. In addition, wheelchairs can be borrowed from the museum's visitor service.

Disabled parking

The museum's disabled parking is located immediately to the right of the main staircase at Narvavägen 17. The disabled parking area is paved with paving stones.

Entrance with lift

Adjacent to the disabled parking there is a lift to the ground floor. The door opens automatically via a push button. The lift is under camera surveillance.

Disabled toilet

Available adjacent to the entrance hall; 2.43 metres wide, 3.35 metres long.
The toilet seat is located in the middle of the wall and has two handles. The distance from the left wall to the handle is 80 cm, and from the right wall it is 95 cm. 

Wheelchairs

For visitors who have difficulty walking, two wheelchairs are available to borrow. Contact the information desk.

Staircases

At the foot of each staircase is a sign specifying the number of steps. All staircases are equipped with a colour marking on the top and bottom steps.

Lifts and ramps

The exhibition space of the Economy Museum is located on the ground floor. If you wish to visit one of the Historical Museum's exhibitions, there are lifts to every floor of the museum. However, some lifts are cramped. On the upper floor, high thresholds have been fitted with ramps to facilitate access.

Visitors with visual impairment

Some visitors may experience our exhibitions as dark. This is to protect liggt-sensitive museum objects.

Guide dogs

Guide dogs are allowed at the museum.

Accessibility companion

Accessibility companions have free admission to the museum.

Audio guides

Our audio guides are available without charge for visitors with visual impairments. They are available in English and other languages.

Tactile objects

The exhibition MONEY! contains several tactile objects.
